The preparation is injected at short intervals into the muscles, which causes some paralysis. In the application area, the muscle cannot contract and the skin cannot wrinkle – the wrinkles then disappear. If we want to be exact – the preparation with its ingredients blocks receptors on the surface of nerve cells, which are responsible for the secretion of acetylcholine. This substance helps the muscle to tighten. With especially deep wrinkles, additional filler material, such as collagen or some other filler material, must be injected after about a week.
The smoothing effect is noticeable after two to seven days. It takes this long for the nerve fibres to absorb the preparation and for the muscle to become immobile. The effect of the first injection lasts on average 3-4 months, though in some cases it may be longer or shorter. After repeated injection, the effectiveness should be extended to 6 months or even more. Prior to use, the long-stretched muscle weakens due to significant facial expressions.
